How to Cancel a Checkride

To cancel a checkride, open the checkride detail view by clicking the checkride block on your calendar or finding it in the Checkrides list. In the detail view, click the Cancel button. You will be shown a confirmation prompt before the cancellation is finalized to prevent accidental cancellations.

What Happens When You Cancel

When you confirm the cancellation, several things happen:

  • Status change — The checkride status is set to CANCELLED. The checkride remains in your history for recordkeeping but is removed from your active schedule.
  • Applicant notification — The applicant is notified about the cancellation through the platform's messaging system. They may also receive an email notification depending on their notification preferences.
  • Waitlist position preserved — The applicant's position on your waitlist is preserved. They do not lose their place in line and remain eligible for future checkride offers.
  • Open slot available — If your automatic scheduler is enabled, the now-open time slot becomes available for the scheduler to assign to another applicant on the next scheduling run.

Cancellation vs. Discontinuance

It is important to understand the difference between canceling a checkride and recording a discontinuance:

  • Cancellation — Use this when the checkride has not yet taken place and will not happen as scheduled. The checkride never started. Common reasons include weather forecasts, DPE unavailability, or the applicant not being ready.
  • Discontinuance — Use this when the checkride has already begun but could not be completed. The checkride was started but had to be stopped partway through due to weather, aircraft mechanical issues, or other factors beyond anyone's control. Discontinuance is recorded as an outcome on a completed checkride, not as a cancellation.
If a checkride has already started and needs to be stopped, do not cancel it. Instead, mark the checkride as complete and record the outcome as a Discontinuance. This correctly reflects the FAA distinction between a canceled event and a discontinued practical test.
