Base Fees
Each DPE sets a base fee for every checkride type they offer. This is the standard fee for the checkride and varies by examiner and checkride type. For example, a DPE might charge a different fee for a Private Pilot checkride than for a Commercial Pilot checkride. You can see the base fee on the DPE's profile card and in any checkride offer you receive.
Travel Fees
When a DPE has multiple testing locations, they may charge a travel fee for locations that are not their primary or home-base location. This additional fee compensates the DPE for the extra time and expense of traveling to that facility. Travel fees are listed alongside each location on the DPE's profile.
Total Fee Calculation
Your total checkride fee is calculated as:
Total Fee = Base Fee + Travel Fee (if applicable)
If your checkride is at the DPE's primary location, there is typically no travel fee, and the total equals the base fee. The total is clearly displayed in any offer you receive and on your confirmed checkride detail page.
Where Fees Are Displayed
Fee information appears in several places throughout the platform:
- DPE profile card — Base fees for each checkride type and travel fees for each location
- Checkride offer — The total fee for the specific offer
- Confirmed checkride detail — The confirmed total fee
Payment
DPE Waitlist does not process payments. All fees are paid directly to the DPE — the platform simply displays fee information for transparency. Before your checkride day, confirm the accepted payment methods with your DPE through the messaging system if this information is not provided in the DPE's instructions on the checkride details page. Common payment methods include personal check, cashier's check, or electronic transfer, but each DPE has their own preferences.

If you have questions about a DPE's fees or need clarification on the total cost, message the DPE directly through the platform. Fee amounts are set entirely at the DPE's discretion and are not controlled or negotiated by DPE Waitlist.
