Two Types of Instructions
Your DPE may provide two types of instructions for your checkride, both of which appear in your checkride detail view:
- Checkride-type instructions — Specific to the type of checkride you are taking (for example, what to study, what documents to bring, planning scenarios to prepare, required maneuvers to review). These instructions apply to everyone taking that checkride type with this DPE.
- Location-specific instructions — Specific to the testing location (for example, which FBO to go to, where to park, where to meet the DPE, any airport-specific procedures or restrictions). These instructions apply to everyone testing at that particular location.
Where to Find Instructions
Open your confirmed checkride from the Checkrides page and scroll to the instructions sections. Checkride-type instructions and location-specific instructions are displayed in separate sections so you can easily distinguish between them. Instructions typically become visible after your checkride is confirmed.
If No Instructions Are Shown
Not all DPEs provide written instructions through the platform. If you do not see any instructions on your checkride detail page, it is perfectly fine to message your DPE and ask if there is anything specific they would like you to prepare or bring. Being proactive about preparation shows professionalism and can help your checkride go more smoothly.
Following Instructions Carefully
Read through all provided instructions well before your checkride date — not the morning of. Some instructions may reference specific FAA publications or regulations you should review, require you to prepare a cross-country flight plan, or specify documents you need to have on hand. The platform's Publications feature can help you look up any referenced regulations or advisory circulars.
