What This Is For

When a student uploads their FAA Form 8710-1 to a Checkride Prep or confirmed checkride, you can review the form and add your digital signature directly on the platform. The platform stamps your signature into the instructor signature cell on page 2 of the PDF and records your name, CFI certificate number, and the timestamp. This is a working copy used for shared review — you still sign the original 8710 in IACRA.

Finding Your Student's 8710

From the Students tab, open the student's detail view. Each Checkride Prep card and each confirmed checkride card has a collapsible View Documents section. Expand it to see uploaded documents, including the 8710-1 if the student has provided one. A badge on the section header shows how many documents are attached.

Signing the Form

Once the student has signed first, a Sign 8710 as Instructor pill appears on the 8710 row. Clicking it opens a review-and-sign modal that:

  1. Renders page 2 of the PDF with the instructor signature cell highlighted and auto-scrolled into view.
  2. Shows the verbatim certification text from the form so you can read what you are attesting to.
  3. Offers a Click to Sign affordance over the highlighted cell, using your saved signature. If you don't have one yet, the platform prompts you to draw one on the signature pad — the same signature is reused for endorsements.

After you sign, the document row updates to show Signed by Applicant and Instructor, and the IACRA-signed sub-item on the student's checklist is automatically checked. If you ever need to remove your signature, you can do so from the same row.

Privacy of the Stored Copy

When the student first uploaded the form, the platform redacted their SSN and any wet signature you may have already added to the printed copy. Your digital signature replaces the redacted area when you sign through the platform, so the file the DPE eventually sees is a clean, machine-readable copy.

If You Don't See the Sign Button

The signing chain runs in order — the student must sign first before you can sign. If you don't see the Sign 8710 as Instructor pill, check that the student has uploaded the 8710 and signed it as the applicant.
