The packing checklist is separate from the pre-checkride readiness checklist. While the readiness checklist verifies documents and eligibility weeks in advance, the packing checklist covers physical items and information the applicant needs to have ready for checkride day.
How the Packing Checklist Is Generated
The packing checklist is generated automatically based on the checkride type and the applicant's pre-checkride checklist items. Items are presented in call-and-response format — the same format used in cockpit checklists. The response for each item is either PACKED, KNOWN, UPDATED, or COMPLETE depending on what the item requires.
Universal Items
Every packing checklist includes these items regardless of checkride type:
- IACRA USERNAME AND PASSWORD — KNOWN
- PHOTO ID — PACKED
- DPE FEE — PACKED
Items Included for Non-Administrative Checkrides
All practical test checkrides (everything except administrative checkrides) also include:
- PILOT CERTIFICATE — PACKED
- AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE LOGS — PACKED
- PILOT LOGBOOK — PACKED
- WEIGHT AND BALANCE CALCULATIONS — PACKED
- PERFORMANCE CALCULATIONS — PACKED
Items Based on the Pre-Checkride Checklist
Additional items are included based on what was required in the applicant's pre-checkride readiness checklist:
- CFI ENDORSEMENTS — PACKED (if endorsements were required under Part 61)
- 141 GRADUATION CERTIFICATE — PACKED (if the training path was Part 141)
- MEDICAL CERTIFICATE — PACKED (if a medical was required)
- KNOWLEDGE TEST REPORT — PACKED (if a knowledge test was required)
Type-Specific Items
Certain checkride types add specialized items:
- VIEW LIMITING DEVICE — PACKED (Private, Instrument, ATP, CFI Instrument, Commercial AMEL/AMES/Rotorcraft-Helicopter)
- GPS DATABASE — UPDATED (Instrument, ATP, CFI Instrument, Commercial AMEL/AMES/Rotorcraft-Helicopter)
- VOR CHECK — COMPLETE (same types as GPS DATABASE)
- INSTRUMENT APPROACH PLATES — PACKED (same types as GPS DATABASE)
How Applicants Use the Packing Checklist
Applicants see the packing checklist as a separate tab in their checkride detail page. Each item has a checkbox. Completion is tracked independently from the pre-checkride readiness checklist — an applicant can be 100% complete on documents but 0% on packing. Both you and the applicant can see packing checklist progress.
